Afrodites Rock
If you take the old coast route down to Paphos you will drive along this coast
line heading to
'Petra Tou Romio'

According to ancient legend folk-hero Digenis Aakritas threw a large rock at
the Saracens during a battle. This is the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite. In
the picture the third group of rocks back and the largest of this group.

The legend of Aphrodite Greek Goddess of love and beauty can be traced to
several places of interest on the island.  The  village of Kouklia is where her
temple once stood and where now stands the church of Panagia Aphroditissa.

The village of 'Yeroskipos' was the Greek goddess's garden. 'Yeroskipos' in
Greek means Holy Garden - 'yeros'= holy and 'kipos'= garden.

At Petra Tou Romio there is a superb restaurant a short drive up a hill from
the main road (not the roadside cafe)  from here, there is a panoramic view
for the bay and Aphrodities Rock. But try to get there fairly early for lunch as
it is a coach stop and the best tables get taken up quickly !
